Worker burned by chemical at plant in Deer Park

Employee in stable condition, officials say

DEER PARK, Texas – A worker at a chemical plant in Deer Park suffered burns when a liquid splashed on the person late Thursday morning.

The incident happened just before noon at the Delta Companies Group plant at the intersection of Tidal Road and Pasadena Freeway.

According to a statement from the company, the employee was transferring a corrosive liquid from one drum to another when the liquid splashed on the person.

The worker was taken to a safety shower and then taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he or she was listed in stable condition, according to the statement.

"The incident was immediately isolated to the work area and did not impact any other employees," the company said in its statement.

Originally, firefighters told KPRC that the incident happened at the neighboring Lubrizol Corporation plant, but a spokesman for the company confirmed that their plant's emergency crew only responded to the incident.

According to the company website, Delta Companies Group "is the leading third-party provider of blending, packaging and warehousing services for customers in a variety of markets, offering the most comprehensive oil and specialty chemical solutions in the industry."
