Investigators said he was killed in front of his 15-year-old son, who was not hurt.

“The dude pulled up and they both got out with guns and started shooting and they missed, so my dad started running and he chased him down,” the son said. “Then my dad tripped in the ditch and he shot him.”

According to deputies, Scyrus and his friend, Jason Caldwell, 34, were working on a car at about 8:30 p.m. in front of a home in the 14700 block of Kenny St. when a masked man approached them in a silver vehicle and  started shooting. Deputies said Scyrus ran and Caldwell was shot in the stomach. When Scyrus fell, the shooter caught up with him and shot him at least once, killing him.

Police said the gunman got into a silver Impala and left Scyrus on the ground.

"I want justice served because he was at home. Don't nobody deserve to die in front of their kid,” said his mother Wanda Hogan.

Caldwell was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. He is expected to be OK.

Shortly after the shooting, officers spotted the car on Freeport and I-10. They arrested one man. A woman jumped out of the car and ran across the freeway. A K-9 officer was sent after her and caught her. The woman was bitten and taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.

The motive for the shooting is unknown.

The victim's family said Scyrus leaves behind several children.

“It doesn't feel like this is real. It feels like I'm in a dream,” the son said. “I'm trying to make it, I guess. It's not going to be the same without him.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit at (713) 274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
