12 homes destroyed in northwest Harris County apartment fire

HOUSTON – More than 100 Houston firefighters from the Cy Fair Fire Department and the Houston Fire Department were called Thursday to a  three-alarm apartment fire in west Harris County.

The fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. at the Green Tree Place Apartments in the 4200 block of Clay Hill Drive.

The fire was so intense that three firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, officials said. They are expected to be OK.

Firefighters said everyone inside the building made it out safely.

The Red Cross is assisting several families who are out of their homes after 12 units were destroyed in the flames. The fire department said part of building collapsed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
