HOUSTON – A man was arrested Wednesday after he robbed a northeast Houston Family Dollar store while dressed as a woman, police said.
Houston police said Derrick Jackson walked in the store in the 500 block of Uvalde Road around 9:30 p.m. in a dress and wig. He asked an employee to "take me to the tampon aisle," where he threatened the employee and ordered him to open the cash registers, investigators said. The man, who was armed with a wrench, stole the cash and took off, according to police.
Police were able to find Jackson and tried to pull him over. He was arrested after a short chase. He was still wearing the dress and women's shoes that he wore during the robbery, police said.
Officers said they found other women's clothing and the wig that Jackson was wearing. Police said Jackson was also in possession of Ecstasy.
All of the stolen money was recovered and returned to the Family Dollar store, police said.
Officers believe Jackson is a 52 Hoover Gangster Crip gang member. Currently on parole until 2019 for a drug-related charge, he is charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and robbery.
