HOUSTON – Smashed wine bottles, completely destroyed television sets and even mangled dryer parts lay in shambles at an office complex in Houston’s spring branch area.
All of these objects serve the same purpose: allowing anyone who wields a sledgehammer or baseball bat to take out their stress.
Tantrums, LLC opened in December as the brainchild of Shawn Baker. She’d seen a saw a group of people smashing bottles behind a bar to get out frustration and that it was genius.
“I thought, 'I want to do that,'” she told KPRC Channel 2 anchor Owen Conflenti.
Baker has seen a wide range of clients since opening from offices coming in for team building and couples on a date night to people sent in by their therapists.
She said jobs and divorces are the two biggest stressors she hears about when people come in.
Visitors get their pick of four rooms ranging in size which can be rented in 5 minute increments.
It costs $25 for five minutes, $30 for 10 minutes and $50 for 15 minutes. Baker also offers a themed room which starts at $85.
“I’m willing to create just about anything, as long as it’s not too weird,” she joked.
