UH student robbed of car in on-campus attack

University of Houston tells students to be alert

HOUSTON – Students and staff at the University of Houston are on alert after a student said she was attacked and carjacked outside her campus apartment.

The student told police that around 10 p.m. Monday, she was walking to her car in the Bayou Oaks turnaround, when a man approached her from behind and began choking her. She said the man took her car keys and then threw her to the ground. The man reportedly drove away in her car, which is described as a 2012 Gray Mazda CX7 with license plate DP6Z068.

The student wasn't hurt, but the incident has a lot of her peers on edge. “That is why I avoid walking by myself on any of the streets, especially at night,” said student Rebeca Perales.

“I take an escort from the library to my car. It takes a little while for them to get where you are, but it’s definitely worth the wait,” said student Alejandra Barragan.

There is a limited description of the man. Police said he is African-American, age 24-26, between 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with short hair, wearing a blue T-shirt and blue jeans.

If anyone has any information, call UH police.
