Pearland officer dead after head-on collision

A Pearland police officer is dead following a head-on car collision Sunday morning with another vehicle, according to authorities.

Officer Endy Ekpanya was driving down FM 518 en route to a non-emergency call when a woman driving a gray Chrysler SRT crossed several middle lanes near Liberty Drive. Investigators said the woman hit Ekpanya's vehicle head-on, pinning both drivers in their cars.

Ekpanya was airlifted to Memorial Herman Hospital, where he later died.

The woman was also taken to Memorial Herman with minor injures.

Department of Public Safety state troopers are handling the investigation.

It hasn't been reported whether the woman was intoxicated or under the influence.
