Former HPD officer sentenced in connection with armored car robbery
Joel Quezada, 33, sentenced to 48 months in federal prison
HOUSTON – A former Houston Police Department officer was sentenced to federal prison after his conviction of lying to investigators in relation to an armored car robbery in 2013.
Joel Quezada, 33, pleaded guilty on Jan. 11, admitting that he lied to investigators about accepting cash for monitoring his police radio during an armored car robbery on Dec. 6, 2013, while he was employed full time for HPD as a patrol officer.
A judge Monday ordered Quezada to serve 48 months in federal prison immediately followed by two years of supervised release.
Officials said four others were charged in the actual robbery of the armored car. They have all been convicted and are waiting for sentencing.
