NBC News – A tough turtle is on the mend thanks to an Iowa veterinarian and some picture-hanging hardware.
A Good Samaritan found the turtle on the side of the road after it was hit by a car, leaving it with a cracked shell and exposed organs.
Vets at Den Herder Veterinary Hospital in Waterloo used the picture-hanging hardware to piece the shell back together after searching the internet for the best solution.
It was a tough surgery that lasted five hours, but the little guy is expected to make a full recovery.
