2 would-be intruders die after resident opens fire, deputies say

Deputies continue search for 3rd assailant

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – Two robbery suspects died Thursday during their attempt to force their way into a home in the 900 block of Fifth Street in Winnie.

Deputies were called to the home in reference to a robbery in progress. When they arrived, deputies discovered Robert Leger (pictured above left), 33, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Chambers County Sheriff's Office, DeMarcus Wilson (pictured above right), 24, was found dead from a gunshot wound about 200 feet from the residence behind a fence.

Deputies said Wilson, Leger and another unknown intruder were attempting to make their way into the home when an occupant fired multiple times in the direction of the intruders, striking Wilson and Leger.

Deputies are searching for the third would-be intruder. He is described as black and identified only as "DeRay."
