Sugar Land Ice rink to reopen

SUGAR LAND, Texas –  

The Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center is reopening after being on the brink of closure.

The rink shut its doors late last month, but now the community has raised enough money to rent temporary chillers. That will get the ice up and running until the facility's compressors are repaired.

The ice is being flooded Tuesday and Wednesday.

We're told the rink should resume skating programs by the weekend.

Star Skaters allows children with disabilities the opportunity to hit the ice and the programs take place at the Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center.

Star Skaters has started a Facebook page called Save Sugar Land Ice. There is also a petition with almost 5,000 signatures to urge the city to get involved with keeping the rink open.
