HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – One man is in custody and two others on the run after an officer opened fire during a bank robbery in northwest Harris County Thursday afternoon.
Police said three men, at least two of whom were armed, entered the Chase Bank near Highway 249 and Cypresswood, made threats and left with cash.
Investigators said an off-duty officer exchanged gunfire with two of the men, and shot one of the suspects in the abdomen outside the building.
Deputies said the men ran into woods.
HPD captured one of the men in the 13800 block of Cypresswood near Grant, about a mile away from the bank. He was handcuffed and put into the back of a patrol car.
He was not injured. His identity has not been released.
Authorities are still searching for the two other men.
Deputies said nearby hospitals have been put on alert if they see any male patients with gunshot wounds.
There is no word if the men are still armed. One had a bandanna covering his face, while another was wearing a hoodie.
Four bank customers and four bank employees were inside at the time of the robbery. None of them were injured.
The FBI will investigate.
