Man fatally shot while attending memorial service at park for friend

HOUSTON – A man who was shot several times Sunday night while attending a memorial service at a park in the Third Ward area has died.

According to Houston police, Deandre Edwards was at a memorial service for a friend at Malone Park on Tuam and Tierwester when someone began shooting around 11 p.m.

Edwards, 28, was shot several times, including in the leg, and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The shooter remains on the loose and his or her identity is unknown.  A black sedan was seen leaving the scene after the shooting.
