Man rescued from Brays Bayou near Texas Medical Center

HOUSTON – Water churned through the Texas Medical Center on Brays Bayou Tuesday morning. The swift water was too much for a man who slipped on the wet embankment at Bertner, ended up in the water and was floating downstream.

Houston Fire Department District Chief David Swanson said, “The water's moving pretty quick. Lots of debris in the water. And we were lucky to get him out like we did.”

Someone called 911. Firefighters spread out along the bank, not sure of where they might be able to catch up with the man. The first attempt to throw him a rope did not work. The second attempt was perfect.

District Chief Swanson said, “They kind of worked their way down and found him. Ladder 33 set up with rescuers and threw ropes. He missed the first throw, but they caught him with the second throw. Brought him into the shore.”

Firefighters pulled him out at Cambridge, about half a mile from where he went into the water. Firefighter paramedics put him into an ambulance. They say he was taken to the hospital for a check up.
