HOUSTON – A Channel 2 News viewer led police to a man suspected in 23 aggravated robberies. The suspect, Marcus Lumpkins, 30, was identified by a viewer who called Houston Crime Stoppers after recognizing Lumpkins in a security video that aired on Ch. 2 on Jan. 20th. In the video, the suspect is seen using a hunting knife to threaten two employees of Dry Clean USA in the 10300 block of Club Creek Drive during a robbery Dec. 15.
Sgt. Mora said investigators are still trying to determine if more robberies can be attributed to Lumpkins. He asked that anyone with information called HPD Robbery Division or Houston Crime Stoppers.
Lumpkins has been charged in one case, identified in three others, and is suspected in a total of 23 robberies that occurred between Dec. 14 and Jan. 21. Most of the robberies occurred in a three block stretch of Club Creek Drive.
Among the cases under investigation are the robbery at the the Dry Clean USA store in the 10300 block of Club Creek. The suspect walked in the back door just after the store opened at 6:45 a.m. on Dec. 15. He stole a purse from employee Leon Hernandez Margarita, 43, and then chased her and another employee out of the store while threatening them with a knife. Much of the action was recorded by a security camera. The video aired on Channel 2 Jan. 20 and 21.
On Dec. 27, the suspect confronted Dalia Simon-Morales, 27 in the parking lot of her apartment complex, Villa Madrid Apartments, 10202 Club Creek around 9 p.m. Simon-Morales was returning home from church when the man grabbed her purse. She fought back, and in the struggle he used the knife to cut the corner of her mouth. He got away with her purse, her money and her Bible. The knife wound wasn't serious.
On Jan. 12, the suspect robbed another resident as he walked through the complex at 2:40 a.m. Police say when the suspect threatened Adrian Adame, 25, Adame threw down his phone and wallet and ran.
In between those robberies, on New Years Day, the suspect confronted Dayana Agular, around 8 a.m. as she waited for her boss to open the game room where she works at 10301 Club Creek. The suspect got away with her purse.
