What's for breakfast this morning? If you're an egg person, maybe you've already started scrambling. Before you dirty another pan, keep reading. Consumer expert Amy Davis tested the Egg-Tastic ceramic microwave pot for As Seen on TV Tuesday.
Egg-Tastic promises fluffy, tasty eggs just minutes in the microwave. Patty Harrison immediately thought of her son in college when she saw the ad.
"My son loves scrambled eggs. but he doesn't like to with all the steps and the bowl and all the dishes," said Harrison. "And I thought 'Well, this is all in one.' Just crack it and eat it right out of the same bowl."
Just crack, whisk and pop the crock in the microwave. Harrison first tested 3 eggs with her daughter, Channel 2 stage manager Elizabeth.
The Egg-Tastic claims it can cook up to 4 at one time; but Harrison's eggs came out a weird color and texture.
"It does not look like egg! And I am not eating it," Harrison said if the egg that plopped out of the Egg-Tastic.
When the pair tried two eggs, they looked better. They made eggs and potatoes and an egg sandwich.
"It tastes good," said Harrison.
Among their observations, the Egg-Tastic gets very hot. Eating your eggs on the go from the container, as advertised, may result in burns.
And cleaning it was not as easy as the commercial claims.
"If you're handwashing it, be prepared to scrub," Elizabeth warned.
For a final test, we asked Patty and Elizabeth to try the same scrambled eggs in a simple coffee mug.
"I almost think this is better," Patty said, trying the eggs she made in a plain coffee cup.
Both women gave the coffee cup eggs a thumbs up. Patty, opting to save the $9.99 the Egg-Tastic costs for her son in college.
"If he can do it in a cup, that's even better and cheaper and easier," she said.
