HOUSTON – With all the Cougar excitement surrounding the upcoming Peach Bowl, U of H is not the only school around Houston headed to Atlanta.
A marching band from Fort Bend ISD will accompany the Cougars to bring the spirit. The Hightower High School "Hurricane" band was invited to perform with a mass band during the bowl's opening ceremony and parade. They will also compete in a field show and drum line competition.

The band director said their show style performance is what helped them stand out from rest.
“The Bowl committee wanted something different and a band with high energy, so we accepted the challenge. We hope to bring back first-place wins in all of our competitions,” band director Robert Jackson said.
This will be the band's first bowl performance though they showed their stuff at Rice University’s homecoming game. In the audience was U.S. Rep. Pete Olson who later wrote a letter to the band that read in part, "Because of your performance, I was able to brag all day about the Hurricane Band. I’ll be watching with all of America when you put ‘show style’ on display at the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta.”
Hightower band has chosen the Michael Jackson's classics, "Thriller," "Slave to the Rhythm" and "PTY (Pretty Young Thing)", as its opening ceremony numbers.
The band has done most of the work to get selected, now they need your help to get to Atlanta. The Hightower High School Band Booster Organization raised $30,000 to support the band's trip to Atlanta but they still need $5,000 more. A Go Fund Me page has been created for the band. If you'd like to contribute to the Hightower High School "Hurricane" band, head to their Go Fund Me Page and make a donation.
