4th Annual Rails to Restaurants kicks off Monday

HOUSTON – Houstonians will get the opportunity Monday to ride the rails while getting to know the sights, sounds and good eats the city has the offer in the the 4th Annual Rails to Restaurants event.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a  kick-off party at University of Houston Downtown South Deck featuring live entertainment, food and drinks by Red Ox Grill, Lucky's Pub, Beam Suntory, Saint Arnold Brewing Company and Asian Market Thai Restaurant. Guests will receive an event lanyard and a Metro pass for the night.

The group will then board the rail at 6:30 p.m. and head to a block party at the BBVA Compass Stadium, sponsored by the East End Management District featuring a Fit Mix Zumba class, and bites from Ninfa's, El Tiempo's, Levy's restaurants, with drinks provided by 8th Wonder Brewery.

The fun doesn't end there, because after that,the tasting ride begins!  Participants will hop on and off the MetroRail and head to designated locations, which will treat them to complimentary appetizers, desserts and drinks from popular downtown Houston venues including, The District Bar & Bistro, Bovine and Barley, Honeymoon Café and many more.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance online.  Tickets will also be available the night of the event at The UHD Kickoff Party and Block Party event at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Former city councilman and head of the Houston Greeters, Gordon Quan, created the event in an effort to drive traffic and provide marketing for businesses in non-suburban areas of Houston, while encouraging use of the rail line for the benefit of the city.  It is also one of Houston's Citizenship Month initiatives.
