Motorcyclist killed, passenger injured on first night of Lone Star Rally

GALVESTON, Texas – A Seabrook man was killed and his wife was critically injured when their motorcycle crashed into a tractor trailer in Galveston Thursday night.  The couple was in town attending the Lone Star Motorcycle Rally.

The accident happened on FM 3005 and 8-mile road around 11:32 p.m.

According to Galveston police, a semi-tractor first pulled over on the westbound side of FM 3005, allowing traffic to proceed.  The truck driver's intent was to turn south onto 8-mile road and was waiting for a clear path.  The driver began to make a wide right turn from the right shoulder when a motorcycle traveling westbound in the inside lane struck the trailer.

The motorcyclist, Cody Frankum, died at the scene. He was 35 years old.

His wife, Carole Frankum, was riding as a passenger.  She was thrown into the median.  The 25-year-old woman was rushed to John Sealy Emergency Room in critical condition.

The accident happened on the first night of the rally.
