SPRING, Texas – A Spring Independent School District police officer was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexual assault of a child.
The arrest followed an investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, school officials confirm.
Spring ISD said Damon Michael Jones was immediately placed on administrative leave and assigned to home duty as soon as the district was made aware of the allegation.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said Jones, 37, met the girl, who was 15 at the time, at the high school where he was on duty.
According to deputies, Jones texted and had phone conversations with the girl. The girl said the relationship escalated to a sexual encounter last summer at a residence.
The girl then told family members, who notified Spring ISD police.
Spring ISD said Jones was assigned to two high schools -- Dekaney and Spring. Officials said the victim attended Dekaney.
"The safety and security of our students are our top priorities, and we take allegations of this nature very seriously," the district said in a statement.
Jones has been with Spring ISD for about a year.
He is being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond. He is due in court Friday.
