HOUSTON – From Play-Dough to the playground, parents of toddlers are always on the search for activities to keep their little ones busy and active.
It's why in this week's "As Seen on TV Tuesday," we are testing something called "Squishy Sand."
Two and a half year-old Aubrey is a master craftsman with her sand tools; but when it comes to messes, she may be a bit of a neat freak.
"Eww!" she cried several times during our shoot, asking her mom to wipe off her hands.
She may get her tendency to be tidy from her mom, Channel 2 News reporter Jen Bauer.
"I prefer activities that are not messy," Bauer said.
The day we asked Jen to test Squishy Sand for us, it was pouring outside, so playing outdoors was not an option. But the makers of Squishy Sand say "No problem!"
"Squishy Sand doesn't stick to hands, tables, clothes or floors, only to itself, so clean up is always fast and easy," claims the announcer in the commercial for the product.
"Unlike regular sand, when you touch it, it easily comes off your fingers," Jen explained. "It doesn't stick to your hands like regular sand, but it still has the potential to be messy."
Aubrey was a tidy builder. Even better, Jen says the building kept her busy
"The first time we played with this, she played with it for at least an hour, maybe 2 hours," Jen said.
We paid $10 for one box; and it says you can re-use it again and again by putting it back in a resealable blue bag that is included. Bauer says that's easier said than done; but she still feels like it would be $10 well spent.
"I say, 'Yay!"' Jen told Davis.
"Aubrey, do you like this toy?" she asked her daughter.
"Hmm-mmm. I do like this toy," Aubrey answered.
"Can you say, 'Thumbs up?"
"Thumbs up!" she exclaimed.
