HOUSTON – Today is the last Friday of summer break for most students in our area; so we wanted to get them classroom-ready with a special "Back to School" edition of Freebie Friday.
While kids will be looking for a couple more days to sleep in, parents will be looking for back to school bargains; and we found some!
Remington College is offering free haircuts for kids 17-years-old and under through Aug. 31. The offer is good at these three campuses at the following times:

Walk-ins are also welcome at each location.
During Cuts for Kids, Remington College will also be collecting school supplies - pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. Anyone who brings in a donation can get a free haircut, manicure, or pedicure for themselves. All school supplies collected will go to local schools.
Haircuts will be provided by students and instructors in the Remington College's Cosmetology Diploma program. The program teaches students the art of hair, skin and nail care through traditional classroom instruction and hands-on training in The Salon at Remington, which allows students to work with real clients.
Or head to the "Back-to-School Haircuts and Hairdos" event Sunday, Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Franklin Beauty School at 4965 Martin Luther King Boulevard. You do need to pre-register by phone. Just call 832-683-4792. There will also be free books, and dental services on site for kids aged 7 to 17-years-old.
No need to register early, just show up at The Island of Hope Church Sunday, Aug. 23 at 12:30pm at 1505 Gregg Street. More than 500 students will receive free backpacks with supplies and free haircuts as part of "Backpacks to 5th Ward."
Nobody likes shots, but the fact that they're free may take some of the sting away. The Houston Care Van program is giving free immunizations to kids two months to 18-years-old. Mom or dad must be present with the child's current shot record. Saturday, Aug. 22, the van will be at the Spring Branch family center 8575 Pitner Road from 8 a.m. until noon and at the Health Museum at 1515 Hermann Drive from 3 to 7 p.m.
It's not the first day of school, but select Chik-fil-A locations are offering free back-to-school breakfasts on Wednesdays, Aug. 26 and Sep. 2 and 9.
If you're still shopping, move fast for this deal. At Toys R Us through Saturday, Aug. 22, you can get a free lunch kit with the purchase any a backpack that costs $12.99 or more.
