Channel 2 Investigates: DrillChem's safety history

CONROE, Texas – Channel 2 Investigates is learning more about a company whose chemical plant caught fire Friday in Conroe.

DrillChem Drilling Solutions appears to have a good safety record.

On its website, DrillChem says the company's aim is "to provide specialty chemicals and value added services which create solutions for our oil and gas customers."

It also makes materials used in oil and gas drilling. DrillChem advertises it makes custom drilling solutions for oil and gas companies.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration records online did not reveal any problems. The company doesn't have a record of previous investigations with the U.S. Chemical Safety Board either.

Firefighting paperwork reviewed by KPRC 2 shows flammable chemicals at the company and cautions firefighters that some chemicals may froth if water or foam is sprayed on them.

Investigators said it will take some time before they understand what chemicals ignited in Friday's fire and why.

DrillChem had only been in the building for about a year and did not have any inspection issues.

Records show that DrillChem was established in 2000.
