The Pearland Volunteer Fire Department released a statement about the hack that read in part: "The Pearland Volunteer Fire Department (PVFD) became aware yesterday, July 10, that its website, pearlandvfd.org, had been subject to a malicious intrusion.  PVFD immediately notified law enforcement officials and is actively taking steps to remove the offensive materials that are currently displayed on its web page ... The Pearland Volunteer Fire Department's website is hosted by a commercial website host.  There is no reason to believe that the City of Pearland's computer system was affected by this intrusion."

The City of Pearland also issued a statement that read: "The Web site is not an official City of Pearland Web site, nor is it hosted on City of Pearland servers. The Web site has not been maintained in over a year and is the legacy Web site for the Pearland Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. The City of Pearland, in partnership with our Web site vendor, Vision Internet have put in place measures to counteract these kinds of cyber threats on all official City Web pages – of which, this is not. The official Web page for the Pearland Fire Department can be seen at http://pearlandtx.gov/departments/fire."
