HOUSTON – Houston police arrested Morgan Noelle Ewy after they say she tried to rob her former Clear Lake-area employer using a can of Mace.
According to court documents, the 24-year-old threatened an employee by pointing a can of Mace at her face.
By taking Ewy into custody, Houston police may have solved at least two burglaries targeting businesses in the Clear Lake area.
Larra Oses said that two weeks before Ewy's arrest, a young woman tried to break into the hair salon where she works. The attempted break-in occurred after hours when it was dark.
"She hid herself behind the pillar and then walked by each pane of glass and hit it with a hammer," Oses said.
What the young woman may not have realized is that surveillance cameras inside the salon were watching her every move. The woman was caught lurking outside but never got inside. Oses said the salon owner called police and showed investigators the surveillance footage.
The young woman had glasses on. Oses believes the woman in the video bears a striking resemblance to Ewy.
"Her hair is pulled back (and she is wearing) glasses as a disguise. It could definitely be her. They have the same shoulder structure, everything," Oses said.
Ewy is no stranger to the law. According to court papers, when she was 19 she was sentenced to seven months in state jail for burglary, five years for burglary and seven years for robbery. Ewy posted bond and is due in court Friday.
