LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – Rising floodwaters threatened homes in the Dayton Lakes Estates neighborhood after the week's heavy rainfall.
The Liberty County Sheriff's Office said a possible dam failure could also be to blame.
Water spilled over the banks of the nearby Trinity River.
Sky 2 flew over the area on Thursday and captured video of homes surrounded by water and cars in an auto salvage yard almost fully submerged.
Some neighbors in the Dayton Lakes Estates area traveled through the streets on boats.
"This used to be a real rich neighborhood actually, until they found out it was a severe flood zone," said Andrew Walters. "Got to pay attention, see what you're doing, take your time, make sure you have all your equipment. Survival backpack is a must out here."
One of the main roads that passes through the neighborhood sat under nearly 10 feet of water.
Walters told KPRC 2 the road has been flooded for more than a week and he has been taking food and supplies to his friends, who live on the other side of the road.
Another resident, Tryson Brock, who said he was born and raised in the area, told KPRC 2 the road flooding is not an uncommon sight but admitted the rains have recently been heavier than before.
"Ain't nothing to worry about. It's just water. Once it starts coming up in here like the 94 floods, I will pack my family up and we'll move on out of here," said Brock.
Liberty County has not issued any mandatory evacuations for people living in the areas affected by the floods.
As of Thursday, no rescues had been reported.
