HOUSTON – One person was killed and another was wounded after a fight at Chancellors Family Center spilled onto the street Sunday morning.
Officers said it started with a fist fight at a pool party, hosted by a group of entertainers. Police said rival gang members showed up and someone pulled out a gun.
According to officers, a teenager was seen running away from the fight, but the shooter chased him down and fired several rounds.
""If he was trying to run away he was trying to get some place safe," said Yvonne Wridley, a close family friend of the teenager.
Officers say the victim, identified as 21-year-old Ernest Moore, was hit multiple times and died at the scene.
An 18-year-old woman who was an innocent bystander was shot in the leg. She was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where she was treated and released. Officers say the shooter fled the scene.
The victim's family and friends are asking for the public's help to find out who killed the teenager.
"If you know anything or have anything to say about what happened please come forward, everything matters, every detail counts," said Wridley.
Investigators are urging anyone who attended the party or may have taken a photo of the suspect or the fistfight to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
