HPD: Boy, 13, finds mother dead at southeast Houston home

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead inside her southeast Houston home Friday morning.

The body of Angela Wafer was found at her home in the 5600 block of Belneath.

Wafer was a 43-year-old mother of three, a hard worker and someone who kept to herself, according to those who knew her. Friends, family members and police are wondering who would beat the woman, and leave her for dead.

Wafer's 13-year-old son found her around 8:20 a.m. when he got up to go to school.  After finding his mother, the boy ran for help.

"I do notice her every morning taking them to school so I am going to think that whenever it was time to go to school, whatever happened in there, that's when he [the son] called the police," said Eura Watts-Williams, neighbor.

Houston police said Wafer suffered blunt force trauma to the head. Her daughter told KPRC 2 News, "She got hit in the head with an iron."

There are no signs of forced entry into the home, according to detectives.

"This is a wonderful lady, I mean, she doesn't have any enemies so the thing is, I don't feel this should have taken place whenever it did because you know, she was a wonderful lady," said the victim's cousin, Joshua Johnson.

Police say Wafer was dating a man who had possibly been to the home Thursday night and want to question him.

Meanwhile, neighbors are on edge because no one has been arrested.

"It's kind of scary to know that this happened just across the street from me. It's kind of freaking me out," Watts-Williams said.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
