HCSO: Family feud leads to dad shooting, killing daughter's boyfriend

HARRIS COUNTY – Investigators said Michael Martinez, 22, was fatally shot after an apparent argument with his girlfriend's father around 11 p.m. Thursday night in the Humble area.

Neighbors said they have never experienced such a chaotic scene and they don't understand how an argument escalated to a killing.

"I recognize it to be a safe neighborhood but then anywhere, anything can happen," neighbor Tarrell Griffin said.

Investigators said shortly after Martinez came to pick up his 19-year-old girlfriend, he was dead.

"Reportedly the boyfriend is known to have guns in the car, so the father had armed himself when he got down there and shot the boyfriend," Sgt. Ben Beall with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials said Martinez parked his black Mercedes down the street and waited for his girlfriend as she argued with her parents and left their house.

Her mother followed and seconds later her father came too with a weapon.

"He could see that somebody was inside and they had gotten shot and shortly after that person fell out of the car and onto the ground where a young lady was there aiding him during the incident," Griffin said.

Martinez was fatlaly shot in the chest. The girlfriend's mother was shot in the hand.

Now, the father could be facing charges in Martinez's death.

The case has been handed over to a grand jury. So far no charges have been filed.
