Civil lawsuit filed against mother after prom death

HOUSTON – A mother is being sued in civil court after her son's prom date was found dead in a north Houston hotel room.

Eddie Herrera took Jacqueline Gomez to prom last year. The morning after the dance, she was found dead.

Herrera is charged with aggravated assault and is accused of strangling Gomez.

Gomez's family is filing suit against Herrera's mother, Melissa Martinez.

Investigators said Martinez gave the teens drugs and alcohol and got them a hotel room for the night.
