HPD: METRO driver covers cameras, has sex with woman on bus

HOUSTON – Investigators said a newly-hired METROLift driver covered up security cameras mounted inside the bus so he wouldn't get caught having sexual relations with the woman on board.

"I think that's reason enough to fire someone," said resident Byron Sepulveda. "For covering up cameras, that seems like a security thing that you probably should not mess with."

According to Houston police, the driver picked up a disabled woman in the 3000 block of West Dallas Street near Waugh Drive around 9 p.m.

Investigators said the woman originally reported the sexual activity as sexual assault – but after further investigation, it was determined that the sexual activities were consensual. Police said even though the cameras were covered up, the audio was still recording.

No charges were filed because police say no crime was committed, but the driver was immediately taken off the job.

In a statement, METRO said, "As soon as METRO learned of this incident, we took steps to ensure the driver was removed for METROLift service. Authorities were immediately notified as was the driver's employer. We want our patrons to know safety is our number one priority and we are fully cooperating with the investigation."
