Houston Ship Channel reopens after ships collide

HOUSTON – The Houston Ship Channel has reopened after a collision between a container ship and a chemical tanker, according to the Coast Guard.

The collision happened around 1:55 p.m. Thursday, south of Eagle Point near San Leon. The channel was closed between light buoys 26 and 42, but reopened shortly before 3 p.m.

The Coast Guard said there is no pollution in the water.

We're told the ships involved are Monte Alegre and Chembulk Houston. Both ships are en route to their original locations.

There were no reports of injuries.
