Mother of 2 shot to death in apartment parking lot near NRG Stadium

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after a grandmother was found dead in an apartment parking lot near NRG Stadium Friday morning.

Angelina Romero-Alvarez, 50, was found by a neighbor at the Wilcox apartment complex in the 2400 block of South Loop West near Kirby around 7 a.m.

"I came out into the parking lot and I saw her. She was slouched over between her car and my car," said resident Sunisa Chum. "We have a lot of crime in this area lately. And she's such a good person, a very good person."

The mother of two had been shot to death, leaving family members devastated and wondering how anyone would want to harm her.

"She was a nice person. Always on Fridays and Sundays, going to church," Romero's son-in-law, Alonzo Ramirez, said. "Sadly, you know, it hurt."

Romero's car was still open and her purse and other valuables were not missing.

We're told she was going to work when she was shot.

Police are still searching for the gunman and trying to determine a motive.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
