CONROE, Texas – A teenager says a substitute teacher with the Conroe Independent School District groped her in class.
The alleged victim's mother tells Local 2 she wants the school to take a tougher stance. The family says there may be more victims out there who are afraid to come forward and that's why they want Oak Ridge High School to notify other parents about what happened to the girl.
"You send your kid to school because you have to and then something like this happens," she said. "You're afraid. You're afraid to send them back."
The Montgomery County mother says her daughter's teacher sexually assaulted the teen in class in front of other students.
"She has been crying a lot and everybody is just worried about what's going to happen when she comes back to school," the mother said.
Her 15-year-old daughter is a ninth-grade student at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe. The mother says last week her daughter came home from school visibly upset, and told her a substitute teacher took her and two other female students to the back of the room during a class project to show them naked pictures of women on a school computer.
The teacher then allegedly groped the girl and became aroused. The teen says she has been bullied at school since she came forward.
"I decided to come forward because I wouldn't want this to happen to any other girls, and if it did I would want them to speak up too and tell their parents," she said.
Conroe ISD says: "The substitute was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. The investigation is expected to be completed early next week and then presented to the district attorney's office."
The family says they won't feel at ease until the teacher is banned from all Conroe ISD campuses.
"As a parent myself, I'm very concerned that there are other kids over there suffering in silence," the teen's mother said.
Authorities have not released the substitute teacher's name because they haven't yet charged that person.
