Pct 7: Suspect airlifted to hospital after shot by deputy in SE Houston

HOUSTON – A man wanted in two counties was airlifted to the hospital Friday afternoon after being shot by a Precinct 7 deputy constable, authorities confirmed.

According to Houston police, deputies were actively searching for a man wanted for domestic assault. When they arrived to a location in the 13500 block of Cullen at Fuqua, where they heard he may have been, the suspect took off running.

The suspect, identified as Ricky Cooper, ran into a wooded area and a deputy opened fire.

According to Houston police, Cooper refused to listen to any of the deputies commands.

Police say Cooper lunged aggressively at one of the deputies in pursuit.

That's when deputies opened fire.

LifeFlight helicopters flew the injured suspect to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.  His condition was not known.

We're told Cooper is wanted in several other counties on charges including evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence.
