Dog found dragged and spray-painted

HOUSTON – The Shih Tzu named Grape is now freshly shaven. When he came to Lone Star, Shih Tzu & Lhasa Apso Rescue from BARC, someone had painted him purple. One paw was missing. The other was badly injured. Rescuers named him Grape because of the purple paint.

"What it looks like to me is somehow he was drug somewhere because on one of his feet, all of the skin is completely removed from about here down and the toes were just hanging by pieces of skin," said Teresa Osborn. "The bones were already broken off. The other foot, there was skin missing from like halfway down the foot. But it looked like they had been drug somewhere."

Someone had reported the approximately 10-month-old puppy injured in northeast Houston.

An officer from BARC went to investigate. Lone Star offered its help, Osborn said.

"It hurts a lot to see," Osborn said. "The poor little guy was in so much pain. It was crazy. I don't like to see dogs in pain."

She estimated the dog has eight weeks of recovery ahead and surgery could be needed.  He still has purple on his paw and tail and is a little scared of people. But with two bandaged legs, he gets around.

Osborn wants his attacker caught and for Grape to be adopted by a good family.

BARC says it does not know who owns Grape. No one has been charged with his attack.
