HOUSTON – Nothing says fall like a porch covered in pumpkins, but at $6 to $10 each, getting that look could cost you -- unless you know where to shop.
Local 2 consumer expert Amy Davis found pumpkins from $4.99 to $8.99 at Houston Garden Centers.
And just about every grocery store has a pumpkin patch; large pumpkins at Kroger are $6.88, $7.98 at H-E-B, and $7.99 at Randalls.
There are also pumpkins of every shape and size at the farmer's market on Airline Drive and the 610 Loop. Regular pumpkins for carving are 29 cents a pound.
The farmer's market only accepts cash and will typically round the price down.
But the cheapest pumpkins in town are at ALDI's -- all pumpkins, some weighing up to 20 pounds, are just $2.89.
Despite the different prices, Local 2 learned the pumpkins at ALDI's, Randalls, and H-E-B all come from the same company, which has farms in Muleshoe, Texas and Clovis, New Mexico.
