HOUSTON – A concussion is defined as a traumatic brain injury that alters the way your brain functions.  They can be caused by a blow to the head, or if a person is violently shaken.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Signs of concussions can be subtle.  Symptoms can last for days, weeks, even longer. Common symptoms include:

  • Headache or a feeling of pressure in the head
  • Temporary loss of consciousness
  • Confusion or feeling as if in a fog
  • Amnesia surrounding the traumatic event
  • Dizziness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Slurred speech
  • Delayed response to questions
  • Appearing dazed
  • Fatigue

The Mayo Clinic recommends a trip to the doctor within a day or two if your child experiences a head injury, even if emergency care isn't required.
