Houston car dealership will sell 3 cars for $1 on Black Friday

HOUSTON – A lot of people are multi-tasking, getting ready for Thanksgiving feasts and planning their itinerary for Black Friday. But if a car is on your shopping list, there's a deal you need to know about.

Sterling McCall on the Southwest Freeway at Bissonnet will sell three pre-owned cars on Black Friday for just one dollar.

"The automobile business has not been as much a part of the Black Friday experience, and shoot, these other guys shouldn't have all the fun," joked Sterling McCall's Marvin Marcell.

The dealership will open its gates Friday at 7 a.m. and unlock every used car on the pre-owned lot. Consumers can lay claim to any of the cars by sitting in the driver seat. If you miss that spot, you can call shotgun. At 9 a.m. the manager starts marking down the prices right on the windshield of the cars.

"If they're in the driver's side when the new price is marked on the car, they have the right to say I'll take it," explained Marcell.

If the person in the driver's seat passes, the customer in the passenger's seat gets next dibs. All of the cars will be marked down. Only three will be marked down to one dollar. Which three is anyone's guess.

"Only the pre-owned manager Dan Minner knows; and Dan is not telling," said Marcell.

This dealership has been doing this since 2008. Last year, one of the $1 cars was a used Saturn. Like most dealerships, Sterling McCall wants to clear out old inventory at the end of the year to make way for newer models; but Marcell says they also see it as a way to thank Houstonians for their business.

"Frankly we are giving thanks in a real sense because we're in the Houston market... and we are so blessed to have a good economy," said Marcell.

Marcell says people usually start lining up early Friday morning hours before the dealership opens.
