Police investigating elementary school student's death

HOUSTON – A community is grieving after the death of a 10-year-old boy.

The child attended Memorial Parkway Elementary in the Katy Independent School District. A letter was sent out to parents expressing condolences and sadness regarding the tragic loss.

"It's shocking and it's sad," said Kay Curry. "It's hard to explain that to my child, but if he needs to talk about it and ask me questions I will be there for him," she said.

Parents told Local 2 the sudden death is tragic because there is still uncertainty surrounding how and why this happened.

"My deepest sympathy goes out to the parents," said Josh Mayfield who has a young son that attends Memorial Parkway Elementary. "This brings into reality that we need to take every day for what it is worth."
