18-wheeler, train collide in Houston

HOUSTON – An 18-wheeler and collided with a train in east Harris County Thursday morning.

Officials said the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday in the 16000 block of Pennisula near San Jacinto.

According the Harris County sheriff's deputies, a semi truck carrying a load of seed was heading into the Cargill plant. It's unclear whether the truck driver slowed down or stopped on the tracks, but the engineer of the train put his engine in reverse, slamming into the truck's back wheels.

No one was injured in the crash.

Officials said the impact caused a light pole to crash down on top of the truck. CenterPoint Energy responded and cut off the power. A heavy-wrecker was called out to haul off the 18-wheeler.

Local 2 spoke with the general manager from Cargill who said their facility will be without power until 3 p.m. Production at the plant has stopped.
