Wind forces Rodeo rides to close early

HOUSTON – The Houston Rodeo grounds were closed early Monday night because of extreme winds.

Strong winds closed about a dozen rides, including three Ferris wheels, the Sky Ride and the roller coaster.

Operators used ride manufacturers' guidelines to make the decision.

"It's not a common thing, but it does happen. The wind, the weather's not something we have anything to do with," said Toni Fiori, vice president of Ray Cammack Shows. "We keep the steady eye on the weather report, and whenever it allows us to, we will put the rides back up."

Eventually, operators decided to close all rides and outdoor exhibits due to the high wind.
