Deputy constable shoots, kills man

HOUSTON – An off-duty deputy constable shot and killed a man who charged at her inside her apartment in southwest Houston Thursday, according to authorities.

Officials said the officer fired at a man trying to enter her apartment at Oakmoor Parkway and West Airport Boulevard.

The suspect was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, officials said.

According to authorities, the conflict started when the officer's neighbors, a grandmother and mother, sought safety in her home after an argument with the mother's son. At about 6:20 p.m., the man kicked in the door of the deputy's apartment, police said.

According to investigators, the deputy constable identified herself as an officer as her young son was behind her. Officials said the neighbors also told the man that she was an officer, but it didn't stop him from charging at them. Authorities said that's when the deputy pulled out her gun and fired.

Officials told Local 2 that the deputy constable has worked with Precinct 7 for about five years.

Per procedure, the deputy will be placed on temporary administrative leave until the investigation is over, officials said.

The man's name has not been released.
