HOUSTON – Houston police issued a warning about a woman who is selling vacuums as a way to enter people's homes.
"She was just really pushy. It was weird," said Amber Woodall.
Woodall said it was nearly 9 p.m. when she heard a knock on her front door. At the time, her husband was putting their 5-month-old baby to sleep.
Woodall said she opened the door and met a woman in her 20s, who she originally thought was a neighbor. The woman said she worked for Kirby Vacuum Company and was trying to make money to pay for college.
"The company was not paying for her college and for every home she got to vacuum, she got $40 credit," said Woodall.
Woodall said she listened patiently as she watched someone parked outside the home in a Cadillac Escalade.
The woman continued to try and talk her way into the home, even offering a demonstration with the vacuum cleaner.
"'You can finish putting baby to sleep and putting baby to bed. I'll vacuum.' I basically had to close the door on her," said Woodall.
Police said at least three incidents were reported by other residents in The Heights.
Investigators believe a woman and possibly one or two men are working together to try and talk their way inside people's homes.
Police have increased patrols in the neighborhood. They said homeowners shouldn't answer the door to strangers, especially late at night.
Kirby Vacuum Company has not yet responded to a request for comment.
