HOUSTON – A 9-month-old puppy was taken at knife-point during a robbery in Midtown.
Darin Carey, the dog's owner, said he was walking near Baldwin and Dennis Streets on Wednesday afternoon when a man on a bicycle approached him and his dog, Toby, a Shih Tzu, poodle mix.
"He said he was going to stab me unless I gave him my wallet," said Carey. "I put my hand in my pocket and said, 'I don't have a wallet, I'm walking my dog.' He told me to pick up the dog. I did and he wanted the dog."
The robber shoved the dog inside his raincoat and rode off. Carey said the robber had a knife strapped to a holder inside his coat.
"I thought I was going to get stabbed to death," said Carey. "I was afraid because I had no wallet on me and I had no phone."
Carey said the man was wearing a black raincoat, gray pants, and was riding a silver bike. He also described him as clean-cut and about 40 years old.
Carey put posters up all over the Midtown neighborhood where the robbery happened. He's hoping someone will notice the dog and call the cops. He fears the robber may try selling him for money.
"I just want him back. I want my little angel back," said Carey.
The Houston Police Department is investigating the case.
