SUGAR LAND, Texas – A father daughter wedding dance is becoming a YouTube sensation.
When Whitney Andrews planned her November wedding, she knew she wanted to make it memorable. Everything from the dress to the cake was perfectly picked out.
But during the time of the planning, a popular video was making the rounds on YouTube. It showed a father and daughter's not so traditional dance at a wedding reception.
"My husband, or fiancé at the time, sent us an e-mail and said, 'Hey, you guys should do this,'" said Andrews. "So we secretly went back and forth and didn't tell my mom."
For three weeks, Andrews and her father David Wallace, a former mayor of Sugar Land, practiced under the watchful eye of a dance instructor.
"Dancing is for everybody. If you can walk, you can dance," the instructor told them.
But Wallace, who has taken traditional dance lessons in the past, felt like he had two left feet when it came to feeling the beat of rap music.
"Those three weeks of dance lessons, that was the hardest part because that wasn't me," said Wallace.
On the big day, father and daughter began with a traditional two-step before busting a move.
"There are a lot of people that accuse me of sleeping in a coat and tie," said Wallace. "And, to go out there and actually just rip that off, and to put on glasses and chain necklace, it was fun."
"Our family and friends are hilarious and like to have a good time so I think that that sort of started the wedding off right," said Andrews.
