Galveston County reports 2nd flu-related death this season

Harris County reports 3 deaths; Houston reports 2

GALVESTON, Texas – Health officials on Wednesday reported a second flu-related death this season in Galveston County.
Officials said a 48-year-old woman who was suffering from a pre-existing illness died in late January after contracting the flu.

A 61-year-old woman in Galveston County, who was also suffering from a pre-existing illness, died in mid-January after getting the flu, officials said. This was the county’s first flu-related death since 2014, officials said.

More than 3,500 confirmed cases of the flu have been reported in Galveston County this season, according to officials.

Officials at Harris County Public Health reported three flu-related deaths this season, but details of those cases were not immediately released.

An official at the Houston Health Department said that two people in the city have died from the flu.
Officials at the Montgomery County Hospital District said three people in the county have died from the flu, including two inmates.
