HOUSTON – The woman known as the "Enchilada Queen" returned to one of her restaurants Thursday, two months after deputies said she was shot by her ex-boyfriend.

Sylvia Casares is the owner and executive chef of Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen located at Westheimer Road and on Woodway Drive. She is also getting ready to release a cookbook.

Thursday was her first official day back at work since the shooting. Casares says she's thankful to be alive.

"[I'm] so thankful that my life was spared and that I get to come back and do what I love. I get to come back and work at what I'm very passionate about," she said.

Casares also says she's looking forward to seeing customers and eating.

On March 12, Fort Bend County Sheriff's deputies said Michael Warren shot Casares in the abdomen during a domestic dispute. He then fled but was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
