The crack of the bat and the roar of the crowd can only mean one thing: It is officially baseball season.
Maybe you don't want to just watch the big leagues, you want to get in the game. Consumer expert Amy Davis is testing an as "As Seen on TV" product that claims it can help.
The folks who make Swerve Ball swear they can make you throw like a pro. The package says it's for ages 6 years old and up, so we asked Little Leaguers and brothers 11-year-old Jacob and 6-year-old Luke to try it out.
The ball is marked with special grip points. By holding on at specific spots, you are supposed to be able to change up your throw.
The announcer on Swerve Ball's commercial explains it: "Place your finger on X to throw a jaw-dropping curve ball. Place your finger on Y for a mind-blowing sinker or place your finger on 'O' to throw a back-door slider."
But Jacob and Luke's throws didn't curve, sink or slide, and they said the directions that came with the balls did not help.
"They did not have all the pictures that they had on the ball. They do not show you where to put your fingers on the ball," Jacob said.
"It's too light; and it's uncontrollable. It's more of a backyard toy," Luke said.
Both boys said Swerve Ball strikes out.
We bought the balls at Walmart for $9.99.
