🐾Clear the Shelters is back: Houston pets are ready for homes

Your next best friend could be waiting at a local shelter — here’s how to help by adopting, fostering, or sharing.

HOUSTON – It’s officially Clear the Shelters month, and that means it’s time to open your heart — and maybe your home — to a pet in need. For the 12th year, shelters across the Houston area are teaming up with KPRC 2 and our community partners at Energy Transfer and Houston Christian University, to help every dog, cat, bunny, and guinea pig find the loving family they deserve.

Why adoption matters

🐶Every year, thousands of pets end up in shelters through no fault of their own. When you adopt, you’re not just bringing home a companion — you’re helping save a life. And every adoption creates space for another animal to be rescued and cared for.

Not ready to adopt? Consider fostering

🏡Even a short-term foster can make a lasting difference. It gives pets a break from the shelter environment, helps them adjust to home life, and supports shelters as they work to care for more animals in need.

How you can help right now

  • 🐈Adopt or foster a shelter pet
  • 🗣️Spread the word to friends and family
  • 📤Share adoptable pet posts from local shelters and rescues

Houston, let’s show up for these animals — because every pet deserves a safe, happy, forever home.
